18:30 – 19:15 SQL Model Clause: A Gentle Introduction – speaker Alex Nuijten

Alex is an independent consultant (allAPEX), specializing in Oracle database development with PL/SQL and Oracle Application Express (APEX) and member of the Smart4APEX Guild.Besides his consultancy work, he conducts training classes, mainly in APEX, SQL and PL/SQL. Alex has been a speaker at numerous international conferences, such as ODTUG, Oracle Open World, UKOUG, IOUG, OUGF, BGOUG, OGH APEX World and OBUG. For his presentations, Alex received several Best Speaker awards. He wrote many articles in Oracle related magazines, and at regular intervals he writes about Oracle Application Express and Oracle database development on his blog „Notes on Oracle” (nuijten.blogspot.com). Alex is co-author of the following books “Oracle APEX Best Practices” (published by Packt Publishers) and “Real World SQL and PL/SQL” (published by Oracle Press). Because of his contributions to the Oracle community, Alex was awarded the Oracle ACE Director membership in August 2010.

Abstract: The Model Clause adds spreadsheet-like functionality to the SQL language. Very powerful stuff, yet the syntax can be quite daunting. With the Model Clause, you define a multidimensional array from query results and then apply formulas to this array to calculate new values. This presentation will give you a gentle introduction in the complex syntax of the Model Clause and will show you some real life examples where the Model Clause was invaluable.

19:15 – 19:30 Break

19:30 – 20:15 How to do Performance Tuning – speaker Martin Widlake

Martin is an Oracle ACE Director and a member of the Oaktable Network. He has been working with Oracle technology since 1992, mostly as a performance and database design expert as well as a PL/SQL programmer. Martin is passionate about user groups and sharing knowledge, he presents regularly, both across the UK and internationally. He writes articles, has his own blog and is the editor of the UKOUG Oracle Scene magazine. He likes cats, beer and genetics.

Abstract: This session will tell you what you need to know to become highly skilled at Oracle performance tuning. Some people think performance tuning is adding indexes, running Explain Plan and using some SQL hints. Which is why they are so bad at it!
Solving most Oracle SQL and database performance issues is usually simple – once you know what to look for, how to look for it, and what you can (and cannot) do to solve them. Even solving complex performance issues is based on these same, simple principles. There is no magic in the database, there is very little “special” knowledge. The real “magic” is simply knowing how to look at the problems correctly.
This talk is based on my solving Oracle performance problems for over 20 years. If it works for me, it will work for you.

20:15 – 20:45 Networking

Evenimentul se va desfășura cu sprijinul BCR la sediul din Șoseaua Orhideelor 15D, etaj 8, sala Auditorium.
